Nylon Plugs are Manufactured in sizes 0.5 up to 6” (12 – 150 mm).

Lightweight and mostly pocket size.

Water-Soluble Purge Film

For closing welds, water-soluble Weld Purge Film offers a safer alternative to paper. Film does not contain water, unlike paper that is full of water, unsuitable for welding.

Water-Soluble Purge Film features and benefits:
• With the new water-soluble adhesive, Weld Purge Film® produces a tough, leak tight purge containment.
• One roll can accommodate a range of pipe sizes.
• Can easily be washed away during hydrostatic testing of the pipe or just by normal wash out.
• Dissolves to molecular level leaving no traces.
• Film dams wash away completely (there are no fibers, as there are with paper products, that can clog up filters and make lumps to stick in pipes).
• Ideally suitable for welding where it is not possible to retrieve the purge dam after the joint is complete.

Custom Plug Testimonial

These are pictures of the 36″ River Water Main repair. The site uses river water for cooling water in the production units. This leak had one of three pump houses shut down. With one pump house off line units had to cut back production. Thanks to you and your company for expediting the repair plug that was ordered Friday afternoon and received and installed Tuesday morning. Qwik-Freezer Used For Repairs At Etihad Towers In Abu Dhabi

July, 2013—Contractors at the world-famous Etihad Towers in Abu Dhabi (pictured above) used Qwik-Freezer® Pipe Freezing Systems to successfully perform multiple freeze seals for piping repairs on the 39th level of Tower 4.

Freeze-Sealing (also referred to as “pipe freezing” or “ice-plugging”) is a process that involves freezing the contents of a pipe to create an internal ice plug to isolate sections of pipe for repair and maintenance, valve replacements, etc. This process eliminates the need to drain long sections of pipe and reduces down time for repairs. Freeze-Sealing was first used by the US Navy in the 1940’s and is now a common practice in building maintenance and countless application in the piping industries.

Qwik-Freezer® Pipe Freezing Kits utilize liquid CO2 to create ice plugs for freeze sealing of up to 8” pipe and are probably the most widely used system around the world. Qwik-Freezer® equipment has been manufactured by COB Industries, Inc. in Melbourne, Florida for over 40 years.

COB Industries Introduces V-Block For Small Diameter LN2 Pipe Freezing

June, 2013—COB Industries, the manufacturer of Qwik-Freeze® and Accu-Freeze® Pipe Freezing Systems for over 40 years, has just introduced the Accu-Freeze® V-Block which is an ingenious new pipe freezing tool designed for LN2 freezes on tube and pipe sizes from 1/4” to 1-1/4” diameter.

The patented Accu-Freeze® technology has been used extensively at several of the U.S. Navy’s prominent shipyards and on Nuclear Submarines for years and COB was approached about developing a faster, easier method of freezing small diameter pipe on Nuclear Subs and the new V-Block was the result.

The V-Block is an amazingly simple and effective LN2 delivery system that can be used on various sizes of pipe.

The precision-machined stainless steel “block” is simply strapped onto the pipe and incorporates standard NPT fittings for LN2 intake and exhaust with a self-contained port to accommodate a thermocouple for reading the temperature of the pipe wall.

The V-Block can be used in conjunction with an Accu-Freeze® system (where the LN2 injections are automated and the temperature of the pipe wall is controlled with a programmed set-point) or it can just be used with standard LN2 tanks and cryogenic hoses.

The liquid nitrogen is pumped into the intake and circulated through the V-Block and vents from the exhaust, without coming in direct contact with the pipe. One of the key benefits of the V-Block design is that there is almost no set-up time required and it provides a freeze seal in the fastest manner possible.

It is also extremely cost-effective with a list price of just over $800.00 each.

March 2013 — COB Industries now manufactures Accu-Jacket Freeze Seal Jackets (“clam-shell” style) in addition to the standard Accu-Freeze™ kits. These Accu-Jackets are popular with customers that need to do repeated freezes on the same size or sizes of pipe. The amount of set-up time is greatly reduced with Accu-Jacket Freeze Seal Jackets that are manufactured to fit specific pipe sizes and are just bolted around the outside of the pipe. The Accu-Jacket freeze seal jackets have injection ports built in which connect to the LN2 feed and exhaust ports to vent the gas to atmosphere. They are constructed of high-grade aluminum with a double-wall design that creates an insulating air gap between the liquid nitrogen and the ambient air outside the jackets.
